Data Day for Barstow Families
What is a Data Day?
As part of a school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports or MTSS system, Data Day functions to provide teachers, interventionists, counselors, and members of a student’s Educational Support Team (EST) with the opportunity to review that student’s progress. During Data Day, this team will review the interventions that have taken place and determine whether those interventions have been effective.
What happens during Data Day?
The team relies on data to monitor a student’s academic, social-emotional, and/or behavioral progress. The team decides if changes need to be made to a student's current EST plan and also decides whether a formal EST meeting is needed to discuss next steps. Progress monitoring meeting minutes are documented by the EST Coordinator, and these notes are shared with families and the EST Team after Data Day.
When do Data Days occur?
Data Days occur after the district testing windows close. Data Days typically align to the trimester or semester, depending on when report cards are sent home.
How will I know how my student is doing?
Every 6-8 weeks, the intervention team reviews student progress. If any changes are made to a student’s plan, parents will be notified directly. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you are interested in discussing how your child is doing in the classroom. Please reach out to your child’s EST Coordinator if you did not receive meeting minutes or if you are interested in scheduling a formal EST meeting.
What is the purpose of an EST Action Plan?
An EST Team may suggest a student be placed on a formal EST Action Plan when a student has received intervention for multiple rounds but is not making adequate progress toward their learning targets. An EST Action Plan is generated to document the need for ongoing intervention. Action plans are reviewed and updated as needed after each intervention cycle. If a student meets their goals, the student can be exited from their EST Action plan. If the team feels the student may require additional support beyond the interventions tried, the team might use the EST Action plan for a more intensive review and follow up.
